The Smart Energy Academy is a FREE educational program for primary schools in Queensland developed to teach P-6 students and their families easy ways to use energy wisely in their homes.

The Smart Energy Academy is provided FREE for Queensland primary schools with an ICSEA ranking below 1000 due to funding by the Queensland Department of Energy and Climate under the Enable Grants program.

The Smart Energy Academy includes a live-in-school educational theatre performance, supplemental curriculum-aligned teacher toolkits, student workbooks and other print and digital educational materials to support classroom teachers. Each school in the program receives a number of energy efficiency kits to be distributed to all students in Grade 6 for students to use in their homes. The kit includes energy-saving products that will help students and their families implement classroom lessons at home.

Each participating school will receive Energy Efficiency kits to distribute to each of their Grade 6 students for use in their homes. These kits are filled with easy to install energy saving measures alongside educational materials focused on home energy strategies and instructions on installation for students and their families. Exact contents of the kit may vary by region, but a sample kit may include: 2 x 11W LED GLOBE 2 x 13W LED GLOBE 1 x BATHROOM AERATOR (LIGHT GREEN) - 4 litre per minute 1 x KITCHEN AERATOR (LIGHT BLUE) - 6 litre per minute 1 x 4-MINUTE SHOWER TIMER 1 x REDUCTION REVOLUTION POWER METER

Yes! The Smart Energy Academy aligns with the Australian Curriculum in Queensland (ACiQ) and pairs excellently with what students are learning in class. You can view the program's curriculum connections HERE.

As part of the program, each school must schedule the live-in-school performance and distribute the curriculum resources to all P-6 teachers. We ask that each grade 4-6 student complete a student survey. The survey form helps us gauge the knowledge gained by students during the program. It also helps us track how much energy is being saved by the program overall. In addition, Grade 6 teachers will be sent printed educational materials and will receive the energy-savings kits at their school. We ask that all participating Grade 6 teachers distribute the print material to students, send home the kits with each student and collect the students’ kit reply cards after their families install the kit measures.
